By using sight words from the Fry and Dolch Word Lists, and by delving into research-based multimodal strategies, we offer a more efficient way to teach words that do not follow “the rules”. We will demonstrate how to reduce students’ cognitive load by eliminating sight words they don’t need to memorize, while focusing on the ones they must commit to memory.
