Tiger Trek, Understanding and Teaching R-Controlled Vowels: October 12, 2020

Monday, October 12th

7:00 - 8:00 pm EDT, followed by Q&A session. This webinar will not be recorded.

If you've ever had a student write “brn,” “grl,” or “brithday” instead of “burn,” “girl,” or “birthday,” this webinar is for you!

Students often confuse consonant-R blends with R-controlled vowels. In this hour-long webinar (followed by a question and answer session), reading expert Jennifer Hasser will explain why this occurs. She will discuss easy strategies to fix this common problem, and will explain why the old adage of “a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y,” is ridiculous because er, ur, ir, or, and ar are actually vowels!

Tiger Trek: Understanding and Teaching R-Controlled Vowels will help you end R-controlled vowel confusion forever, making things easier for your students and yourself.

This webinar will be followed by an optional Kendore Learning instructional Community (KLiC) on Wednesday, October 16th. KLiC participants will receive practical, hands-on strategies to teach R-controlled vowels in the classroom and in virtual learning situations. Participants will be among the first to receive our new, expanded Tiger Trek card deck, which can be used to play many reinforcement games. They will also receive a Toss & Teach beach ball and downloadable activities. The discussion-based, 2-hour KLiC will be interactive and engaging.
