Seeing Double! Transformative Vocabulary Instruction: Connecting Spelling Patterns to Meaning

Monday, November 7th

9:30am-1:30pm ET (Eastern Time)

Virtual Workshop

Do double letters cause your students double trouble? Learn how to help your students develop a better understanding of how these letters are actually doing "double duty" when they appear in words. During this half-day training, Jennifer Hasser, M.Ed., will outline how patterns of double letters are necessary to preserve meaning, and how they signal valuable information about the morphology of a word.

This training will focus upon spelling patterns that create double letters, such as assimilated prefixes, seen in "accept" and "approximately." Doubling conventions will also be considered, as in "hopping" vs. "hoping." When students know the "why" behind the patterns, they can make connections between words for meaning and spelling across subject areas. These concepts can help students understand the power behind "seeing double"!

Participants will learn games and activities to layer into instruction. The information presented will be appropriate to use with students of all ages.

Cost: $95

Attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance and digital materials via email after the event.
