Kendore Kingdom Reading and Spelling Curriculum

The Kendore Kingdom is a structured literacy, speech to print, K-2 + remediation curriculum that takes students systematically through reading concepts from fundamentals to advanced comprehension. Designed to teach all requisite reading skills, our engaging, multisensory format is both fun and memorable.

Teachers will learn the skills necessary to teach:

  • Phonemic awareness
  • The alphabetic principle (phonics)
  • Vocabulary
  • Fluency
  • Comprehension
  • Spelling

Teachers and students become involved in a process of learning in a fun, yet cognitive way that retrains the brain and lasts a lifetime. Kendore teachers receive comprehensive training and materials, making it easy to implement the curriculum and monitor student progress. The Kendore Kingdom workshop includes Multisensory Spelling (described below).

When used for upper-grade remediation, the Kendore Kingdom is known as Kendore Keystone. Kendore Keystone teachers take Kendore Kingdom training, but are given instruction on differentiating for upper-grade remediation.

Two Kendore Kingdom workshops are available:

  • Part 1 provides the training and materials educators need to begin teaching the Kendore Kingdom/Kendore Keystone
  • Part 2 gives teachers who have taken Part 1 the opportunity to dive deeper into the curriculum and focuses upon assessment and comprehension.

Kendore Teacher Certification

Kendore Learning Certified TeacherKendore-trained teachers are offered the opportunity to become Kendore Certified Multisensory Structured Language Teachers. Kendore Certified Teachers develop a depth and breadth of knowledge that enhances their classroom work and allows them to achieve mastery. The Kendore Certification process is rigorous (taking approximately two years), and includes the following:

  • Completion of Kendore Kingdom Part 1 and Part 2 workshops
  • Completion of Kendore Word Play workshop
  • Passing of final course exam with a 90% or better
  • Extensive hours of practicum work
  • Observations by Kendore Instructors (including detailed feedback sessions)
  • Lesson plan development and implementation
  • Extensive independent reading and research

Multisensory Spelling

Kendore Learning offers Multisensory Spelling Workshops.

Did you know that nearly ninety percent of the English language is decodable? It is — but you have to know the rules! Our engaging Multisensory Spelling workshop presents twelve rules that can make memorizing spelling lists a thing of the past. These simple rules are presented in a fun, Clock Face story format, and enable students to successfully spell thousands of words. We’ll teach you the “why” behind our language so that spelling finally makes sense. Our spelling workshop is filled with “ah ha moments.” Learn how to present some of the spelling rules you’re familiar with in an innovative, multisensory way!


Kendore Word Play Multisensory Vocabulary/Morphology

Kendore Learning’s Kendore Word Play Vocabulary workshop provides a clear and effective methodology for teaching vocabulary. Participants discover ways to incorporate vocabulary activities across the curriculum and explore how to teach morphology as a way to unlock the meaning of thousands of words. Teachers receive lessons and materials to implement instruction in the classroom. Kendore Word Play is lively and engaging and supports multisensory teaching methods. Appropriate for grades 2-8.


Writing

Kendore Learning Writing Workshops for TeachersThis hands-on workshop explores useful strategies for developing students’ writing skills. Topics include idea generation, grammar and sentence structure as it applies to developing student writing, paragraph and essay development, and proofreading and revising techniques. This structured, sequential approach to developing students’ writing skills is beneficial for teachers of writing in all disciplines. Participants practice with the various teaching strategies introduced and learn techniques they can apply the very next day in their classrooms.


Dyslexia Assessment 101

Teaching conducting reading and dyslexia assessment.This one day workshop provides an overview of the characteristics of dyslexia and how to help students before they fail. Participants will receive:

  • Hands-on Assessment Training
  • Intervention Strategies and Accommodations
  • Data Collection and Graphing Instruction

Reading Simulation

Kendore Learning Dylsexia Simulation helps teachers understand what it's like to struggle to read.What if you could get inside the brain of a child who struggles to read and write? How would it feel to understand first-hand the child’s frustration?  What if you could learn real strategies to help you address not only their frustrations but your own? During this one-day workshop, we bring to light the difficulties that students face when reading and writing does not come naturally. This eye-opening, hands-on workshop is guaranteed to produce many “ah-ha moments” for participants, who will leave with proven strategies for helping dyslexic students as well as typical learners.


Memory

Kendore Learning Working Memory WorkshopA robust working memory is fundamental for reading success. However, student attention spans are decreasing, and the ability to hold and use information in short-term, working memory is suffering. The Kendore team has developed strategies to build students’ working memories throughout literacy instruction. Let us teach you to weave memory skills activities into your lesson plans so that you can increase your students’ capacity to learn and remember.
